Assessments at Neurofit Brain Centre

The first step towards personalised therapy

At Neurofit Brain Centre, every therapy program begins with an assessment at our Eight Mile Plains clinic. This helps us understand how your nervous system, brain and body are functioning and gives us a clearer picture of your strengths, challenges and goals so we can create a therapy plan tailored to you or your child.

What can I expect with Neurofit’s comprehensive assessment?

Your comprehensive assessment may include both neurological and physical components, depending on your needs.

Initial assessment

The initial assessment includes a pre-screening questionnaire followed by a comprehensive on-site evaluation (1.5–2 hours) at our Eight Mile Plains clinic.

The assessment covers over 50 items, including physical, neurological, core strength, and computerised testing. We may look at areas such as:

Initial assessment

An optional QEEG may also be conducted on request (depending on eligibility and suitability) to map brainwave patterns, providing a visual blueprint of functional connectivity and balance between the hemispheres.

Report of findings

Report of findings

A subsequent report debrief session will be held to review and explain the assessment results, including potential contributors to dysfunction such as retained primitive reflexes and hemispheric imbalances.

These findings help guide a customised treatment plan and home exercise program using Neurofit Brain Centre’s brain-based therapies.

Why assessments matter

No two nervous systems are the same. One person may need support with balance and movement. Another may need help with sensory processing, attention, coordination or confidence with daily tasks.

A careful assessment helps us avoid a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, we use your assessment findings to plan therapy that is targeted, measurable and aligned with your goals.

Why assessments matter

What does your therapy program look like?

Our therapy program is individualised based on each person’s assessment findings and functional needs. It typically includes a combination of structured, 1-on-1 sessions and targeted training components designed to support brain integration.

This may involve:

1-on-1 sessions, focusing on primitive reflex integration

Core training sessions to improve postural stability and core strength

Brain stimulation stations, using targeted sensory and motor activities.

At the end of the program, a reassessment is conducted to review progress and changes in functional performance.

Neurofit’s assessment process

What makes Neurofit’s assessment process different?

Neurofit Brain Centre combines clinical observation with specialised software, equipment and interactive technologies. This helps us gather practical information about how the brain and body are working together.

Our therapy environment is designed to feel engaging rather than cold or clinical. Many activities use digital tools, movement-based tasks, sensory-motor equipment and interactive programs, making it an enjoyable experience for adults and kids alike.

Book an assessment

An assessment is the best place to start if you want to understand whether Neurofit Brain Centre’s approach may be right for you, your child or someone you care for.

Initial assessments are completed at:

Frequently asked questions

At the end of the program, a reassessment is conducted to review progress and changes in functional performance.

What do we do at Neurofit? What is Functional Neurology?

Developmental Functional Neurology, known as the Melillo Method, seeks to assess and address developmental asynchrony, brain imbalance, and functional disconnection for patients of all ages.

The program targets a wide range of conditions, including ADHD, autism, and dyslexia, by creating customised, goal-oriented plans that aim for measurable results within a set timeframe.

This approach focuses on integrating the brain’s hemispheres and resolving retained primitive reflexes through a combination of sensory stimulation, physical exercises, and nutritional support.

We use a range of modalities designed to support co-activation and stimulation of targeted brain areas.

These may include laser therapy, sensory stimulation, neural timing training, dynamic balance training, and eye-tracking exercises. A demonstration video is available on our homepage.

Lots of people! Commonly, our patients are people with neurodevelopmental, attentional, behavioural, and learning-related difficulties. This may include individuals with diagnoses such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, dyslexia, Tourette’s, OCD, and mood-related conditions. They may experience improvements in functional performance over time.

No. Neurofit does not diagnose medical or developmental conditions. Instead, we work with people who already have a diagnosis, or who are seeking support for functional challenges to explore whether our brain-based therapy approach may be suitable.

If you are exploring a diagnosis, please talk to your GP in the first instance. Some GPs now diagnose ADHD, but most will refer you to an allied health professional for an in-depth assessment, then to a paediatrician or psychiatrist for diagnosis.

No. Our assessment is designed to help us understand how a person’s brain, nervous system and body are functioning so we can develop a personalised therapy plan. It focuses on areas such as balance, coordination, movement, sensory processing, attention and cognitive function. A formal functional capacity assessment to support NDIS funding is typically completed by an occupational therapist or other appropriately qualified allied health professional for the purpose of supporting NDIS access or funding reviews. If you already have NDIS funding, our team can discuss whether Neurofit services may align with your existing plan and goals.
